DIY Baby Wipes

by

For sometime now I have chosen to use skin care and body products that are free from harsh chemicals, parabens, sulphates like SLS, fragrances, and alcohol.  Many of these ingredients can cause allergic reactions, skin sensitization, and are toxic to our immune system.

So when my daughter was born I knew I never wanted to use any nasty chemicals on her. The problem is that the majority of commercial baby wipes contain these ingredients. There are some alternative brands that are kinder to baby’s skin, however they cost a fortune!

The solution – do it yourself wipes.  But, I’m not asking you to weave your own fabric and source virgin tears for their moisturising power. Instead these DIY wipes are cheap, versatile, and take only a few minutes to make!  I love that you can use them for nappy change time and as hand and face wipes.. Not only do they clean the skin but coconut oil is a natural antibacterial and gives soothing relief to the skin.

BABY WIPES RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp pure castile soap
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • Optional – 2 drops of essential oils added to the coconut oil- lavender, chamomile or rose geranium help soothe skin.

  1. Cut paper towel in half, then put in 2 x 1.125 litre square plastic containers.
  2. Mix the ingredients in a jug or bowl until the coconut oil is dissolved,
  3. Pour the mix evenly over both rolls.
  4. Pull cardboard roll out, Then find start of the paper roll and pull out from centre to start.
